Not so long ago a concerned, loving father warned the United States that his son had been radicalized and was very, very dangerous. Then on Christmas Day, that same son lit his pants on fire in an attempt to blow up a whole plane load of people. That young terrorist, now residing in our prison, did exactly what he was taught to do without questioning why. He wasn’t taught to reason. He wasn’t taught to think. Instead he was force fed half truths, falsehoods and a steady diet of prejudicial bias until he no longer could distinguish between what was good or evil, true or false. And the same thing can happen to our kids. If we are not diligent about what our kids read and learn our kids could be subjected to the same insidious brain washing that created the Christmas Day Bomber.
Soon, in Texas, textbooks will be chosen that, in all actuality, will be used in every classroom throughout the United States. Consequently, it is of the utmost importance that the textbooks that are ultimately chosen be devoid of all bias, innuendo, prejudice and personal agendas. It is extremely important that the textbooks that will eventually end up in our classrooms are accurate and factual. And the textbooks must depict real events, episodes and happenings in order of importance chronologically.
Our kids do not need to know what the author or a member of the school board thinks may have been the motivation for a historic event. All they need to know is what actually happened, when it happened, why it happened and who was involved. Nothing more! There is far too much racial, ethnic, religious, sexual, and other bias in this world right now. It should never be inserted into the textbooks and teaching materials used in our public schools. So let’s stop permitting persons with personal agendas from putting their venomous thoughts into our kids learning materials. And let’s begin with this textbook printing.
