Stumpin' Calls
I should have used the tune to Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush this week instead of Jingle Bells because here we go again. Again today the President is publically wringing his hands and suffering great angst over whether or not he should honor General McChrystal’s request for 40,000 more troops. Oh say it ain’t so, Joe. Obama just doesn’t know what to do. And I cannot understand why not. How does a man, who has never ever served, for even one minute in uniform, have the audacity to tell a four-star general with extensive combat experience, who was his personal choice for the job, that he is wrong!
Has Obama even bothered to go to Afghanistan to see for himself just what is going on? Does he realize that every minute that he squanders, while he is shrouded in indecision, becomes a death knoll for one of our brave people on the ground? And why, just why, would he second guess this General and entertain the idea of cutting the troop deployments down by a half? Is it Obama’s intent to make it impossible for our troops to have a chance at victory, a chance to do the job right and come home with honor? Even the Bush haters out there have to agree that George Bush wasn’t that stupid. Against all odds George Bush stood up to the Congress and the people of the United States. He listened to General David Petraeus. Then he sent in the troops needed, and, as the whole world witnessed, that by enabling our military, we were able to conduct a successful surge in Iraq.
Why won’t this President make a like decision? He was adamant enough during the campaign about which war was the right war and how it should be handled. What happened to that plan of action that he talked about then? He must have thought about just how he would handle a situation like this if it should arise, knowing that it probably would arise. Why is he so distraught? Just what is President Obama waiting for? Pundits who are a lot smarter and more informed than I all agree election results are what he is waiting for. And not those that will take place in Afghanistan either.
This is an appalling revelation if indeed it bears out to be the truth. How hypocritically crass can this President be to openly morn at Dover Air Force Base last Tuesday evening just to buy time till he knows the results of next Tuesday’s elections? And, if true, what then Mr. President, what then? Will you support your General one hundred percent by sending in the troops he needs? Or will you use your own judgment and just support him half way? Or will you demand that our troops turn tail and run away? Will you, the leader of the United States of America, stand up for freedom and liberty around the world all the way or just half way? Or will you sell out to the highest bidder for a couple of votes and political favors to be cashed in at a later date? What will it be Mr. President? The whole world is watching. And, the whole world is waiting for your answer.
