Commentary on
We Need Some Cheer

What a year this has been.  From inauguration day on there has been one thing after the other going through Congress at break-neck speed. And most of it was passed in the middle of the night without being read by either party. From the opening gun, the decisions presented by this administration made folks sit up and question this new President’s policies. We began with a stimulus bill that has failed to stimulate the economy. Job creation was slow when Obama took office, but in the last 11 months it has virtually stopped, which is a major factor in our skyrocketing unemployment. The mortgage and credit crisis “inherited” from the Bush Administration has grown geometrically with the Obama policies.  The bank bailouts and the takeover of General Motors are putting this country on a road that strays far and wide from capitalism.  The embracing of our enemies while snubbing our friends and the choosing of presidential advisors that would never stand up to public scrutiny were totally inexcusable. But, after weighing all the above and taking into consideration the inheriting factor, there remained ten happenings that topped my list of the worst debacles of 2009.

Number 10 has to be the reality TV Gate Crashers who somehow passed through White House Security and attended the annual Christmas party. Yet no one on the White House Staff or any other quarter for that matter seems to have been taken to task for this blunder. Makes a citizen a little nervous wondering just how easily our national security can be broached if the President can be reached that effortlessly.

Number 9 is the war on Fox News. Now that is just the kind of show of egotism the American people want and the kind of petty politics we want our President to direct his energies towards.

Number 8 is the embarrassment our President experienced by not being victorious at bringing the Olympics to Chicago. Fools Rush In . . . Even Oprah Winfrey couldn’t fix this one.

Number 7, the ultimate slam, was Barack “here I come to save the day” Obama deliberately delaying his Copenhagen jaunt so that he could be the deal maker only to be totally snubbed by the Chinese at the Copenhagen Climate Summit. Whew – at least Cap and Trade will have to wait for another day.

Number 6 was the Senate holding its clandestine 1:30 am vote to pass Healthcare and scheduling another vote to take place on Christmas Eve by order of His Grinchness himself, Harry Reid. Next year is an election year. Maybe with time folks won’t remember.

Number 5 are those sweetheart deals that were made to get Healthcare through the Senate. Who can forget about the Louisiana Purchase, the Corn Husker Taxpayer Shucker. Lieberman’s Bribe, and the 100 Million Dollar Chris Dodd Payoff. Who knows just how many more are hidden in this enormous bill and the other bills that have gone before it? Wasn’t there a campaign promise about earmarks?

Number 4 is the crowning achievement for the Senate of 2009. For the first time in American History, a bill of this magnitude was passed by a House of Congress without bipartisan support. What a great way to do business and rewrite history.

Number 3 is Afghanistan and General McChrystal who were put on the back burner because the President’s priority appeared to be on securing the Olympics, responding to the accolades for being named the Nobel Peace Prize winner for 2009, or just jetting off to deliver another speech on something somewhere to avoid making an unpopular decision that did not justify the Peace Prize or pacify the far left on a war that Obama deemed the right war.

Number 2 is ignoring the Iranian demonstrators who rose up under penalty of death to protest against the corrupt Ahmadinejad election. This was an unforgivable insult by the leader of the free world. In light of Iran’s belligerence that is evident today, let’s hope it doesn’t backfire.

And Number 1 on my list is the 9-11 Terrorist Trials that will be conducted in New York City. This has to be the worst decision of the century not just year or decade. Is this President mad? What a zoo this will be for New York City. What a heart break for the families, survivors and friends who must not only relive every second of that horrific day but be belittled and ostracized by the very men who inflicted this pain upon them.   And what a disgrace this will be for the United States of America. Personally I do not want my country degraded by a disgruntled citizen let alone a murdering infidel who is nothing but a scum-of-the-earth savage.

But all was not bad. There were a few things that happened that I think were really good.

Letting Congress own the Health Care Bill was an absolutely brilliant move on Obama’s part. If this issue becomes a 2010 and 2012 campaign issue, he can claim honestly that he had nothing to do with its creation.

Choosing Sonya Sotomayor for the Supreme Court gives Obama the Hispanic vote he needs and satisfies his far left liberal base.

And Obama’s best move of the year was taking on the pirates that were holding an American cargo ship captain hostage. This action showed us that Obama just may have a backbone after all.

Well, that’s my list. I really would like to know how my list agrees with yours so please leave a comment. Just click on the following link.

We Need Some Cheer
Sung to the tune of I Wanna A Girl

Please press play                          December 27, 2009

We need some cheer

because this year

has been really bad.

Does someone know

where the debt will go?

Our outlook is so sad.

We chose a man

who we thought could see

 the way out

from all this misery.

Now we confess

that he’s made a mess

and we have all been had.
